· Latin America,Latino music,Nuria Triana Toribio

One of the biggest winners in 2020 Latin Grammy awards was the Mexican singer, composer, producer and activist, Natalia Lafourcade. She is one of the most successful Latinas in music and her songs are enjoyed throughout the Spanish-speaking world. Moreover, with her Latino Grammy award she is gaining further fame, and is joining a prestigious list where we can find, for example, the Spanish Alejandro Sanz y Rosalía

In 2020, Lafourcade won album of the year for Un Canto por México, Vol 1, released to benefit a cultural centre damaged in the 2017 Puebla earthquake.

Natalia was born in Mexico city in 1984. She´s a champion of Latin culture, and has received several awards for fighting for the preservation of Latino identify through music, and engaging with traditional genres such as boleros.

Her album Mujer divina of 2012, pays homage to Agustín Lara, a world renowned Mexican song and bolero composer from the 1930s to 1950s. His songs have endured the pass of time and became a key part of the shared popular music in Spanish heritage. Lara is the author of boleros that featured in the films of Pedro Almodóvar such as Piensa en Mí, featured in Tacones Lejanos/ High Heels (1991).

Lafourcade´s album Musas, celebrates Mexican and Latin American folklore with more songs by Lara, such as the famous ballad María, bonita (sung by Julio Iglesias and Caetano Veloso, among others in the past) as well as other songs of the time.

And here is Natalia with the Spanish band, La Oreja de Van Gogh.
